Movies meet video games
Saturday October 20 at 1pm at the café of the Society for Arts and Technology [SAT].
The opening of major videogame company studios has made Montreal an industry hub. Consoles are now common appliances, and there are almost as many issues and developments as there are gamers. What are the connections between cinema and video games? Is there convergence or divergence—are they friend or foe? Experts in the subject, from both industry and academia, will share their views, experience and expertise in a half-day session devoted to the present and future of gaming.
To what extent are in-game narrative sequences conceived in cinematic terms? What is their future as narrative tools? How can they be brought closer to cinema? How can players be given more power to create characters and stories? Why should they have that power? How do you design a game in which the player becomes the author? Is this the road to the long-sought interactive cinema?
