Mixed Reality, Art and Mobility

A 3-hour course led by Mike Wozniewski. The course is an introduction to the principles and technologies of location-based media and their innovative usage in the context of artistic projects.

Course Objectives :
- To explore new possibilites in the world of interactive art allowed by the connection between the real and virtual world, through the relations between people, places and interfaces
- To understand the notions of “geo-tagging”, geocoding, localization, and location-based services
- To become familiar with tracking and localization technology (GPS, WiFi, other sensors)
- To explore theories of geographic information systems (mapping, projections, formats, etc.)
- To explore the programming interfaces of mobile platforms and devices
- To explore map-making techniques with the help of GPS and open-source softwares
- To use and become familiar free and/or open source locative software (eg, OpenStreetMap, Mediascape,Google Maps, Layar, Drupal, etc.)
